Local Libraries struggling

While the BBC reports that Libraries NI are facing huge cuts to their budget and faced with laying off staff throughout their 96 branches, the Minister for Finance and Personnel has confirmed to me that the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure has handed back over 40 million pounds since 2013.

The stalemate between the DUP and Sinn Fein has resulted in failure to agree on how to spend money allocated to preserving vital services like local libraries. While they continue the fallout over welfare reform and sectarian disputes over what to do with the Maze site, our local communities are suffering.

As a member of the Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, I will be raising these matters with the Minister.
